The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

Kate DiCamillo

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillo, is a beautiful, heartwarming story about, strangely enough, a porcelain bunny. Edward Tulane, the porcelain bunny, lives a fancy life with his owner, a young girl, where he is loved and cherished. Everyday, he is given love and watches the world around him from the bedroom window. But, instead of being grateful, Edward becomes self-centered. Always complaining about little things, like how he can’t look over the dinner table, or how he’s not on his side when he sleeps. So, when Edward gets thrown off a boat by two older bullies, he is in shock. Trying to figure out what happens, Edward is found and passed on from owner to owner. Each time, he learns something about the world around him. Slowly, but surely, Edward realizes that the world is much more complex than what he sees from the bedroom window. Follow Edward Tulane as he finds new friends, new places, and learns that the world is beyond himself.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, is one of my all-time favorite books. Not only is moral of the story important, the author, Kate DiCamillo, is able to portray emotion so strongly, that you feel that you are in the character’s body. Edward Tulane takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion, from surprise, sadness, then joy. Watch as Edward Tulane finds out that the world isn’t all about him, and that miracles are possible.
